What Is The Cost Of A Traffic Light?

Signals that indicate when to go and stop are provided by traffic lights, which are powered by electricity. Building a stoplight in Louisiana is expensive. In particular, these devices are considered a feasible traffic management method at crossings since they provide the highest degree of control.

Traffic lights may cost anywhere from $80,000 to more than $500,000 for purchase and installation. The annual power and regular maintenance cost an extra $5,000 to $10,000.

According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation, installing a new traffic light might cost an additional $80,000 to $100,000, depending on the location's complexity and the traffic patterns in the region. Approximately $300,000 might be spent on additional costs such as project inspection and design. The traffic signal controller alone may cost as much as $9,250, not including the installation cost.

New Traffic Light Constructions

According to a statement from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, flashing yellow arrow traffic signals in the New Orleans Metro District were activated in 2021. The first phase of the project involved 56 traffic signal modifications in St. Charles (10), Jefferson (36), Orleans (8), and Plaquemines (2) parishes. According to current estimates, the project's first stage, which will cost $4.3 million, should be finished by the end of 2021.

Phase two, costing over $3.7 million, included the installation of flashing yellow arrows at 60 traffic lights in the parishes of Jefferson 8, St. Bernard 14, and Orleans 38. Beginning in December 2020, construction on phase two is projected to be completed by spring 2022.
