The Importance of the Organ Donation Program

Medical procedures save and transform lives through organ and tissue donation. Tissue donors help save lives by donating their eyes and tissues, while organ donors help those on the transplant waiting list in the United States.

What is an Organ Donation?

An organ donation is a generous gift of one's organs or tissues to someone in need. Our Highway Hero Driving Academy team thinks that this is a very heroic act for those who participate. An organ donation can transform a person's life significantly. A single organ or tissue donation may save more than ten people's lives.

What Makes Organ Donation Important?

There are far fewer donor organs than there are patients in need. Some people stay in the hospital for weeks or months, while others go to the hospital many times a week for treatment. Some patients lose their lives while waiting.

People who need an organ transplant are frequently in critical condition or near death due to the failure of at least one of their organs. They come in all ages, from youngsters to the elderly.

Our loved ones, friends, and coworkers might one day require a transplant.

Living Donation

You may give a kidney, a tiny portion of your liver, or leftover bone from a hip or knee replacement while you are still living. People who require a kidney transplant but don't have a matching living donor might benefit from a paired kidney exchange program.

What May Affect A Donor's Decision To Give?

Only a small number of medical issues would prevent you from serving as an organ donor. When you die, a skilled health expert engaged in your care will conduct a thorough examination to determine whether or not any of your organs or tissue are suitable for transplantation. There are many reasons to register as an organ and tissue donor, and it's crucial to tell your family and friends.

I think that donating your organs Is. A great thing to do because when your dead and gone you won’t need them so why keep them so they can rot when you can save someone’s life just by giving something that you don’t need anymore

Me, personally I feel like the organ donation system is a good way to go about saving a life. You may actually let the person you’re giving your organs to another chance at life. In my opinion you’ll donate with the thought of doing something right. Your chance of actually being a hero.

I honestly do not want to be a organ donor for personal reasons and beliefs that I would rather not mention on this blog, but there were some great reasons on why it is done listed above. I wouldn’t stop any one from doing it. I just wouldn’t do it myself.

Thanks for your honesty, Troy! The great thing about this program is that it's voluntary and no one can be MADE to do it! Great post!
