Alternatives to Drunk Driving

Alcohol and drugs may be present in any establishment where people congregate, including local bars, clubs, and friends' houses for game nights. Because of this, the most crucial portion of the night is not deciding what to wear, what to drink, or what games to play—instead, it's figuring out how to go home safely.

Even though the legal drinking age is 21, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08 or more is still prohibited. Therefore, our Highway Hero Driving Academy team presents you with some alternatives to avoid driving in this situation.

Take a Ride with a Friend

In the absence of a designated driver (DD), another alternative is to have a sober individual drive everyone home.

Consider Using a Ride-Sharing App

Ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft may be a good option if you're looking for more flexibility in your schedule. It'll be more expensive than the other possibilities. As a user of these services, you can contact the provider at any time.

Adding more stops will allow everyone to get home safely. However, the additional cost is primarily dependent on the supply and demand of that night.

You should take additional steps to make sure you get safely to your destination in one piece if you use a ride-sharing service. For the duration of the trip, share your location with a loved one, and they'll be able to keep track of where you are and where you're going. Whenever you get close to the automobile you will ride home in, scan the license plates to make sure they match the ones on your smartphone. Before you get in the car, you can ask the driver to say your name out loud to make sure they are who they say they are.

Final Thoughts

Driving while drunk is never a good idea, let alone safe. You jeopardize not just your own life but the lives of others around you. Fortunately, some solutions may keep you from getting into a car at any cost.

Compared to a DUI or the loss of someone's life, the expense of pre-planning is well worth the effort. A designated driver, a specified pick-up person, a ride-sharing service, local transit, a stroll, or an overnight stay are all choices.

If ever you feel the urge to drive while impaired, utilize one of these tips. Keep yourself safe, have fun, and use common sense.

I believe that people feel pressured to drink and drive because it may seem as in their only option to get to their destination and/or they feel confident enough in themselves that they can drive drunk.

A person should never drink alcohol if they are about to drive so if the driver is drunk another person that’s not drunk and knows how to drive should drive the car.

I think people may feel pressured to drink & drive because they go to parties w/ friends & they may not go in expecting to drink but then there’s one friend that says “one drink won’t hurt..just have 1!” But then they end up drinking way more than one drink. They can’t stay the night at a club & they probably aren’t in the right mindset to know how to order an Uber. Therefore, they think that theyll be okay on the road & plus it’ll be cheaper on their end so they drive anyway. I’m full aware that none of this is safe whatsoever & when I am if age to drink & I want to go “partying “…

I don't feel people are pressured to drink and drive because you don't have to either ride with someone else or catch an Uber. If you feel like you're unable to drive don't do it if you are not comfortable with it. Some people may think there is pressure because they want to get home on their own but you can choose the safer route either don't drink and drive or find another route.
